Does Clik2Go Connect technology
keep up with the times?
Our Internet Access Service is constantly being upgraded to give you the best possible value. As a result, Clik2Go Connect ports in thousands of communities throughout the United States already have new V.92 Technology capabilities. Most of our Internet Access DialUp Numbers have been upgraded to V.92 technology. The rest will soon follow.
Even if you do not upgrade your computer's modem to V.92, to be fully compatible, you'll still see a huge improvement over the old technology.
Why do I need or want Clik2Go Connect?
Our Connection Ports are equipped with V.92 Technology, which is faster than the old standard for dial up internet access. Other good news is that Clik2Go Connect costs far less than ISDN, DSL, and Cable, etc. Although broadband technologies (DSL and Cable) are all the rage right now, in reality, most people around the world only have access to analog phone lines. Dial-up modems will remain the primary means to get on the Internet for years into the future, so it is important to improve the user experience, and that's what we have done at Clik2Go. The Latest Technology is here today at Clik2Go Connect.
What is V.92?
V.92 is the new dial-up modem specification from the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) that introduces three new features that will add convenience and performance for the modem user. The three features are (1) Quick Connect, (2) Modem-on-Hold™ (MOH) and (3) PCM Upstream.
What is the ITU?
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is a formal, worldwide telecommunications standards body. The ITU is a charter organization of the United Nations (UN), and is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
When will my ISP support V.92?
Industry-leading network equipment companies have tested V.92 and some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have V.92 ports available for their internet access customers. Of course, not all ISPs have upgraded to V.92 at the same time, and many have yet to upgrade. Clik2Go is among those at the forefront in switching over to the new, better, V.92 Technology.
Are Local Clik2Go Connection Ports
already equipped with V.92 Technology?
Yes. While not all Internet Access Service Providers can boast that they are ready for the new technology, most Clik2Go ports in communities served we serve already do have the new standard. New accounts are automatically set up to dial into the new V.92 ports. It's important to note that your computer will work well as is with SpeediDialUp. In other words, to get onto the Internet with Clik2Go Connect, there's no need to update your computer to a V.92 Modem. If it has a V.90 modem, or an earlier version, you're still "good to go" with Clik2Go Connect.
Do I need a V.92 Modem on my
computer to use your service?
Absolutely not. However, if your computer is now equipped with an earlier than V.92 Modem, to get full benefit later on, you may upgrade your computer to V.92 with V.44 compression. However, it is only necessary to upgrade your computer modem if you wish to take full advantage of the V.92 technology. There's one thing for sure: In our experience, whether you have a V.92 Modem in your computer, or not, you will notice a definite improvement in the BPS rate (Bytes Per Second) as soon as you get online with Clik2Go Connect.
What makes Clik2Go even faster
if I have a V.92 modem in my computer?
The Quick Connect feature of a V.92 modem cuts the modem negotiation or handshake time by up to 50% so you can dial-in faster. The other feature that makes a V.92 modem faster than a V.90 modem is V.44, the new compression protocol. It is based upon a compression scheme that can speed up your web browsing as much as 50%. Please note that not all V.92 modems are required to have V.44 data compression, so, when you do decide to upgrade to a V.92 Modem on your computer's end, make sure the new modem you select does have V.44 Compression.
Must I invest in upgrading my computer
modem to use Clik2Go internet access?
No. Existing modems in all computers are compatible with our hook up ports. You will notice an increase in speed even if you do not upgrade your computer modem to V.92. Of course, your telephone line quality, and the standards and quality of your phone company's service, as well as the limitations your computer's current modem might have, and the speed of your computer itself, will all play a part in the results you get. However, nearly everyone who uses Clik2Go Connect immediately notices a difference. Some customer's BPS (Bytes Per Second) rates are twice that of their old internet access service, even with existing V.90 modems in their computers. Clik2Go's V.92 Ports allow you to get the most out of 56k Dial Up connection to the interent, even with your existing computer modem.
How do V.92 modem speeds compare
to ISDN, DSL and Cable speeds?
The V.92 modem is a regular dial-up modem with increased speed. ISDN (64-128Kbps), ADSL (640Kbps and up), Cable (1000Kbps and up) and other broadband connections have a higher "raw power" connection speed so they will continue to be faster than a V.92 modem. But, the difference in customer cost is such that, in most cases, it's like getting two or three months of Clik2Go for what it would cost for one month of Cable, ISDN or DSL.
What will quick connect do for me?
Very simply, quick connect will shorten the time it takes to make a connection by remembering ("training") the phone line characteristics and storing them for later usage. Typically, the modem handshake (all that noise you hear) takes from 25 to 27 seconds. Surveys indicate that people are quite irritated at this length of time. Quick connect will cut the modem handshake time in half for most calls, a significant improvement. Full benefit of this feature is only available if you have a V.92 Modem dialing into our Clik2Go V.92 Port.
Will quick connect work for me
while I'm on the road with my laptop?
Yes. Since quick connect actually "trains" the modem on the first call, all the following calls will be quick connects - faster handshake times. People usually make more than one connection from the same phone line (e.g. hotel) when they are traveling. Quick Connect is only available if you have a V.92 Modem dialing into our Clik2Go V.92 Port.
What will PCM Upstream do for me?
PCM Upstream boosts the upstream data rates between the user and Clik2Go to reduce upload times for large files and email attachments. A maximum of 48,000-49,000+ bps upstream rates can be achieved, compared to some competitor ISP rates that can be as low as 22,000 bps. PCM Upstream will work particularly well with new equipment such as Internet-connected digital cameras, which primarily upload rather than download information.
Will I be able to upgrade my V.90 modem
or will I have to buy a new V.92 modem?
Some of the older V.90 modems that were upgraded from x2 or K56Flex to V.90 do not have the hardware needed to implement V.92. In those cases, you would have to buy a new modem to get V.92 capabilities. All other modems should be V.92 upgradeable.
When will I be able to buy V.92 modems?
V.92 modems are available now. Internal and external versions are on shelves in many leading stores. To get full benefit of increased speed you must install external V.92 modems using a USB connection. A serial connection will slow down the online information coming to and going out from your computer.
What will MOH do for me?
Many households use the same phone line for both voice calls and data (Internet), so when the user is browsing the Internet, an incoming call cannot get through. Modem On Hold (MOH) allows you to receive an incoming call and stay connected to the Internet (Call-Waiting service from your phone company is required). It also works in reverse; you can initiate a voice call while connected and keep the modem connection. Modem On Hold is a feature that can only be utilized if you have, or upgrade to, a V.92 Modem for your computer. But, whether you decide to upgrade or not, with a Clik2Go V.92 Port Connection, you will have that capability when you do upgrade your computer modem down the road.
How much time will I have if I
choose to take an incoming call?
The V.92 specification allows for hold times to be anywhere from 10 seconds to infinite. However, your phone company may enforce other "hold" limitations.
Do I have to redial to get back to the Internet?
No. When you hang up the phone you can resume browsing.
Can I stay on the Internet and make a phone call?
Yes. Initiating calls is easy with MOH. First, a MOH application is executed. This program suspends the data connection between your modem and the ISP so you can pick up your phone and make an outgoing call in the usual way. The application puts the modem "on-hold", flashes the hook, and a dial tone appears on the extension handset so you can make a call. When your call is complete, the modem will detect an extension on hook, flash the hook twice, and return to the data (Internet) connection.
How long will my internet connection be "on hold"
with a V.92 Modem while I'm talking on the phone?
The MOH application can display the time allotted and also display a countdown so you will know how much time you have left for the phone call.
